Tyndall AFB Commercial Gate

The Zone 4 Commercial Gate Complex at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, is a design-build entry control facility for commercial vehicles, delivered for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District. Every delivery truck and contractor vehicle bound for the base is checked here before it goes further, so the complex is organized around the vehicle: a two-bay vehicle inspection building with an integrated gatehouse and a waiting area for drivers, a guard booth at the lane, and an overwatch station, tied together by new approach roadways, site lighting and utilities. The inspection building is built of reinforced masonry, split-face block below and insulated metal panel above, under a curved standing-seam metal roof on steel framing, with a matching canopy over the entry and a glazed booth set on a masonry base.

The Jenkins Group was the architect and designer of record on the design-build team, responsible for the architecture and interiors of the complex: the building envelope, the inspection building's plan and finishes, the gatehouse and driver areas, and the guard booth. The firm worked to the Unified Facilities Criteria through the design submittals, coordinating its drawings with the team's engineering disciplines so the buildings, lanes and site systems were documented as one facility. The complex was completed in 2024 and joins the firm's other design-build work for USACE Mobile District at Tyndall, including the flightline munitions storage facility.
