Strack & Van Til Grocery
Strack & Van Til's Cedar Lake store is a flagship for the northwest Indiana grocer, carrying the company's current décor and merchandising program at full strength. The Jenkins Group designed the 49,583-square-foot supermarket on insulated load-bearing precast panels, resolving a shared CMU party wall with the adjacent hardware store into a clean, contemporary storefront.
Behind the brand image is a full-service grocery — produce, bakery, seafood, deli, and meat — coordinated with the civil, structural, refrigeration, and MEP consultants the building demanded. The store earned LEED Silver certification from the USGBC, pairing an energy-conscious envelope and systems with the daily realities of food retail.
A grocery store has to sell beautifully and run efficiently — the architecture has to do both at once.
